SoothSki Skiing and Ski Testing for Ski Canada Mag

Below are the instructions to configure the Sensor Logger app for the Ski Canada Mag on-snow ski test. The app will record your skiing and your impressions of each ski model. The data recorded will be analyzed by SoothSki to extract metrics like speed, acceleration, slope, number of turns, turn radius, carving efficiency, etc. To use the app, follow these steps:

Before Your First Ski Day:

• Download Sensor Logger app
• Join the SoothSki-SkiCanada study
• Complete your profile questionnaire
• Enable GPS location for the app

Before Each Ski Day:

• Fully charge your phone

For Each Ski Model:

• Open Sensor Logger and tap “Start Recording”
• Confirm Study Active (SoothSki-SkiCanada) appears at the top and tap ‘Start Recording’
• Place phone in chest pocket and go skiing
• Stop recording in the app when done with the ski
• Complete the ski survey

After Testing:

• Upload data when you have wifi access

📋 JOINING THE STUDY

Complete steps 1-5 before your first ski day as it required downloading an app.

Step 1: Download Sensor Logger

Download the Sensor Logger app from your phone’s app store:

Step 2: Join the Study

Open Sensor Logger and go to the Studies tab. Tap the ‘Create/Join’ button, then select ‘Join a Study’.

Step 3: Enter Study Code

Enter the study code when prompted or follow this link:

Step 4: Complete the Questionnaire about you

Fill out the brief questionnaire with your personal information (email only needed if you want a summary of your data):

• Name
• Email
• Weight (in lbs)
• Height (in cm)

Step 5: Enable Location

Enable GPS location for Sensor Logger.

Complete steps 6-8 each time you test a model

Step 6: Start Recording

In the Sensor Logger app, go to the Logger tab, make sure it says Study Active (SoothSki-SkiCanada) at the top and tap ‘Start Recording’ at the bottom. You can keep the app running from the moment when you click into the bindings to when you return the skis, including chairlift rides, waiting time, etc.

Step 7: Go Test the Ski

Place your phone in a chest pocket and go test the ski.

Step 8: Return the Ski and Stop Recording

When finished with a ski model, tap ‘Stop Recording’. Confirm the end of the recording and answer the brief survey about the ski (model, impressions, best uses, etc.). You can review your answers before uploading.

📤 DATA UPLOAD

Step 9: Upload your Data

Once you have wifi access, go in the Recordings tab, click on each recording and click on Upload. You have to wait for the recording to be uploaded.

We will compile and analyze the data and send you results by email.

💡 Important Tips

• Fully charge your phone before recording to ensure you have enough battery for the entire ski session
• Cell service is not necessary – the app works completely offline and will save all sensor data locally
• Upload on wifi – recording files are large, so upload on a wifi connection when you’re back at the lodge or home
